Trophoblast:
Trophoblasts are the cells that make up the blastocyst's outer layer, which nourishes the embryo and later becomes a significant portion of the placenta. During the early stages of pregnancy, they are the first cells that differentiate from the fertilized egg.
They are essential for implantation and establishing maternal-fetal interaction.
When the blastocyst embeds itself in the endometrium, it divides into two layers: the cytotrophoblast (inner) and the syncytiotrophoblast (outer). The syncytiotrophoblast invades the mother's endometrium, making it more invasive than any tumor tissue.
