Lactic acid bacteria are used to produce lactic acid which is an important industrial product and also used in beverages, confectionery, diary products etc. It also checks diseases causing microbes in the stomach. It has several other functions like improving the nutritional value of food, control of intestinal infections, improve digestion of lactose, control of some types of cancer, and control of serum cholesterol levels.
