Mention the main information given by the balanced chemical equation.

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Balanced chemical equation

A balanced chemical equation has an equal number of atoms of different elements on the reactant as well as on the product side.

Step 2: Information provided by a balanced chemical equation

  • A balanced equation gives the proper identity of reactants and products.
  • A balanced equation gives the exact number of atoms and molecules.

Step 3: Example

When zinc (Zn) metal reacts with hydrochloric acid (HCl), then zinc chloride is formed and hydrogen gas is liberated. The chemical equation is given below:

Zn(s)+2HClaqZnCl2aq+H2gZincHydrochloricZincHydrogengasacidchloride

From the example, it is clear that every identity of all reactants and products involved in that reaction is depicted. Moreover, the count of atoms on both sides is also presented.
