Automobile emissions are a major cause of air pollution in metro cities. Their added increase in number has worsened the situation.

Ways to control this include:-

• Use of unleaded petrol and low-sulfur or sulfur-free
  
• Use of catalytic converters to reduce the emission of poisonous gases
• Application of stringent pollution-level norms for vehicles such as Bharat Stage III and Bharat Stage IV that specify mass emission standards for the vehicles.
