The conversion of atmospheric, industrial, or biological nitrogen into such usable forms which can be utilized by living organisms is called Nitrogen fixation.

Microorganisms involved in Nitrogen fixation:

  2. For example, Azotobacter bacteria fix the nitrogen in the soil, Anabaena (blue-green algae) fixes the atmospheric nitrogen in water and the paddy fields and Azospirillum bacteria form a loose association with the roots of maize, sorghum.
