Solution

The parts of the upper respiratory tract are - Nostrils, nasal chamber, mouthcavity, pharynx and larynx.

  • Nostrils - It serves as a passageway for inhaled and exhaled air.

  • Nasal chamber - It helps in filtering the air. It also moistens and warms the air. Nasal passage has a lining of cilia and mucus. Cilia filters and traps the dust particles and other pathogens such as bacteria along with the mucus. Hence, air when it enters is almost purified before entering into the lungs.

  • Pharynx - It serves as a common passageway for air and the food.

  • Larynx - It is also called the voice box which houses the vocal cords. Vocal cords help in the production of sound in mammals. The vibration of the vocal cords produces sound.
