Mention the role of decomposers in an ecosystem .

Open in App
Solution

There are three biotic components of an ecosystem, namely producers, consumers and decomposers. Decomposers break down dead plants and animals and convert them into simpler organic molecules which are released in the atmosphere. They play crucial role in an ecosystem. If they were not present in an ecosystem, the nutrients would not get recycle and plants would not get essential nutrients. Also, in absence of decomposers, the dead matter and waste would pile up.
