It is the largest gland in the human body, brown in colour, and produces bile which is used for the breakdown of fats in the small intestine.
It has multiple functions in our body that includes the production of bile, carbohydrate metabolism, vitamin, and mineral storage, and absorption of vitamin K.
Bile is necessary for the emulsification of fat molecules for easier digestion.
Bile is also needed for the absorption of vitamin K which is needed to produce blood-clotting factors.
Liver stores glycogen which is broken down into glucose in need of extra energy in the body.
