Melting point

The melting point temperature of a solid is the same as the freezing point temperature of its liquid state, i.e. ice melts at the same temperature as the water.

Significance of melting point

  1. The melting point of a substance can be used to estimate the size of inter-particle forces of attraction.
  2. In other words, the greater the melting point, the greater the magnitude of the substance's interparticle forces of attraction.
