To calculate the surface area of irregular objects:
  1. Place the object on graph paper and trace its outline.
  2. Count the number of squares that are enclosed fully to be 'a'.
  3. Count the number of squares that are enclosed more than half to be 'b'.
  4. Count the squares that are exactly half enclosed to be 'c'.
  5. The approximate area of the irregular shape can be calculated using the formula: a + b + (0.5×c)
