Finding area of surfaces which have curved or irregular circumference, which cannot be traced along the borders of the graph sheet is tricky.
We can find area of such surfaces by tracing it on a graph sheet and counting the number of boxes.
1. First we need to count all the small boxes which are fully covered or more than half covered.
2. Count boxes which are fully covered or more than half covered as 1.
3. Count the boxes that are exactly half covered as 0.5.
4. Ignore the boxes which are less than half covered.
5. Add the number of boxes i.e. More than half covered + Half covered × 0.5
This method cannot measure exact area, this will gives us the value of area which is close to the actual area.
