(i) The Central Highlands form the part of the Peninsular plateau that lies to the north of the Narmada river covering a major area of the Maiwa Plateau.
(ii) The Vindhya range is bounded by the Central Highlands on the south and the Aravalis on the northeast. The further westward extension gradually merges with the sandy and rocky desert of Rajasthan.
(iii) These highlands are wider in the west but narrower in the east.
