Functions of the hypothalamus are:-

  1. Sweating is one way that the anterior hypothalamic area controls body temperature.
  2. It also sustains circadian rhythms, which are daily cycles of physical and behavioural changes.
  3. For instance, a circadian rhythm connected to the presence or absence of light is being awake during the day and sleeping at night.
  4. The release of growth hormone-releasing hormone and appetite are both regulated by the arcuate nucleus (GHRH).
  5. By inducing shivering and preventing perspiration production, the posterior hypothalamic nucleus aids in controlling body temperature.
