Mercury is a liquid and iron is a solid . And yet the density of mercury greater than that of iron. Why ?

Mercury is denser than iron but still, it is liquid because the bonding structure of mercury is weaker than that of iron. Thus due to weaker bonds, mercury is liquid and iron is solid.
