The amount of money Merry would pay to purchase 3 teddy bears $=2.25\times 12.5$
In this method, we need to shift decimal point of 12.5 to the right by one unit to make it a whole number 125.0.
We need to shift decimal point of 2.25 by two units right to make it a whole number 225.0.
$\Rightarrow$ $125\times 225=28125$
Now, we will compensate shifting of decimal point of 12.5 and 2.25 by shifting decimal point in 28125 by three units left i.e. 28.125
$\therefore$ $12.5\times 2.25=28.125$
