Merry wants to buy 3 teddy bears worth $12.5 each, but the seller tells her that she can get three teddy bears at 2.25 times the price of one of them. Merry then, pays $ to the seller to purchase the 3 teddy bears.

The amount of money Merry would pay to purchase 3 teddy bears =2.25×12.5
In this method, we need to shift decimal point of 12.5 to the right by one unit to make it a whole number 125.0.
We need to shift decimal point of 2.25 by two units right to make it a whole number 225.0.
125×225=28125
Now, we will compensate shifting of decimal point of 12.5 and 2.25 by shifting decimal point in 28125 by three units left i.e. 28.125
12.5×2.25=28.125
