Solution
The correct option is A Haemozoin Malaria parasites (Plasmodium spp.) digest hemoglobin and release high quantities of free heme, which is the non-protein component of hemoglobin. A heme is a prosthetic group that consists of an iron atom contained in the center of a porphyrin ring. Free heme is toxic to cells, so the parasites convert it into an insoluble crystalline form called as hemozoin. In malaria parasites, hemozoin is referred as malarial pigment. Hemozoin is released into the blood circulation during the rupture of RBCs, which when ingested by phagocytes of the body caused release of interleukins that cause fever the characteristic of malaria.
