Solution

Dear student
Since metal M is found in nature as carbonate and also used in galvanisation, metal M is identified to be Zinc.
The process of converting the carbonate ore into metal follows the two steps:
1.Calcination of the ore is done in absence of Oxygen to form Zinc oxide and carbondioxide
ZnCO3 ZnO + CO2

2.The Oxide obtained is reacted with CO at 1600K which reduces it to Zn
ZnO+ CO Zn +CO2

Most common ore of zinc is Sphalerite (Zinc blend) which is basically zinc sulphide.

Other important ore are smithsonite, wurtzite, hydrozincite etc. which are zinc carbonate, zinc sulphide and zinc silicate respectively
