Question

Metallic spheres of radii 6 cm , 8 cm and 10 cm , respectively, are melted to form a single solid sphere. Find the radius of the resulting sphere.

Open in App
Solution

Let the radius if the resulting sphere be 'r' cm.
(i) Volume of 3 spheres having radii 8 cm and 10 cm.
=43π(6)3+43π(8)3+43π(10)3
=43×227{(6)3+(8)3+(10)3}
=43×227{216+512+1000}
=43×227×1728
=7241.14cm3
(ii) Volume of the resulting sphere, V
=43πr3
=43×227×r3
=8821×r3
=4.19r3cm3
Volume of the resulting sphere = Volume of three spheres
4.19r3=7241.14
r3=7241.144.19
r3=724114419
r3=1728
r=12cm
Radius of the resulting sphere is 12 cm.
