Open in App
Solution

The combustion reaction of hydrocarbons gives Carbon dioxide (CO2) and Water (H2O) and evolves a large amount of heat is called a combustion reaction.

Combustion reactions are exothermic in nature.

Methane is used as fuel due to the following reasons:

1. When Methane (CH4) shows a combustion reaction it evolves a large amount of heat and this heat is converted into energy to use as fuel.

2. Methane is the main component of natural gas and produces less amount of Carbon dioxide.

Therefore, Methane is used as fuel.
