Solution

The correct options are
A CH4+Cl2SunlightCH3Cl+HCl
B CH3Cl+C2SunlightCH2Cl2+HC
C CH2Cl2+Cl2SunlightCHCl3+HCl
D CHCl3+Cl2SunlightCCl4+HCl

Methane reacts with chlorine in the presence of sunlight, it is an example of a substitution reaction is also called halogenation. When chlorine gas (ClCl) is irradiated, some of the molecules are split into two chlorine radicals (Cl) whose free electrons are strongly nucleophilic. One of them breaks a weak CH covalent bond and grabs the liberated proton to form the electrically neutral HCl. The other radical reforms a covalent bond with the CH3to form CH3Cl.
