Question

Micturition is a reflex process, but under some voluntary control. Explain.

Open in App
Solution

During micturition, parasympathetic stimulation causes the detrusor muscle to contract and the internal urethral sphincter to relax. This stimulation is caused by filling of the bladder and is under part of micturition reflex. The external urethral sphincter (sphincter urethrae) is under voluntary control and is consciously relaxed during micturition. Hence micturition is a reflex process but under some voluntary control.
