Solution

Finding the number of students in class:

Given, Mike has 55 pieces of gum and he gave 4 to each student in his class.

Out of 55 he has 3 remaining, which means total gum distributed is 55-3=52

Since the gums are equally divided among students as 4 to each, we can say that

4×total number of students =52

Therefore, total number of students =524

=13

Hence, the total number of students in class is 13
