IS:2911 (Part-I)-1979 recommends a minimum spacing of 2.5 times the shaft diameter for point bearing piles, 3 times the shaft diameter for friction piles, whereas in loose sands or fill deposits, a minimum spacing of 2 times the diameter of the shaft is suggested. In the case of piles of non-circular cross-section, the diameter of the circumscribing circle shall be adopted.
