Question

MODELING REAL LIFE A battery for an underwater drone is in the shape of a square prism. It is designed to draw in seawater that is then used to produce energy. The base of the battery has side lengths of 15 centimeters and the height of the battery is 10 centimeters. Find the volume of the battery.

Solution

The battery is in the shape of a square prism. A square prism is a figure whose bases are squares.

Step 1: The volume V of the prism is the product of the area of the base and the height of the prism. Here, the given battery is square prism as the bases are square in shape.

Step 2: The formula of the volume of the prism is given by: V=Bh

Where B is the area of the base & h is the height of the prism.

In this figure base is rectangular & Area of base, A=l×w

Where l is the length and w is the width of the square base.

Step 3: Here, In this question the length (l) is 15 cm, width (w) is 15 cm & height (h) is 10 cm.

Let’s put the values in the formula,

V=B·h=15(15)×10=225×10=2250

Hence the volume of the battery is 2,250 cubic centimeters.
