Solution

(a)

Step1. Count platelets in 3 milliliters of blood.

As there are 2.7×108 platelets per milliliters of blood .

Hence platelets in 3 milliliters of blood = 3×2.7×108

= 8.1×108

Step2. Writing 8.1×108 in standard form

8.1×108=810,000,000 (Move decimal point 8=8 places to the right )

(b) Platelets in an adult human body

An adult human body contains about 5 liters of blood

As there are 2.7×108 platelets per milliliters of blood .

Hence platelets in 5 milliliters of blood = 5×2.7×108

= 13.5×108

= 1.35×109
