Mr. anu Mishra bought a gold pendant for Rs 7208 on Dhanteras from a jewellery store advertising successive discounts of 20% and 15%. What was the marked price of the pendant?

Let the M.P. of the pendant be $x$

$\therefore$ Value of pendant after first discount $=x-\frac{20}{100}\times x=\frac{4x}{5}$

Now, value of pendant after second discount$=\frac{4x}{5}-\frac{15}{100}\times \frac{4x}{5}=\frac{4x}{5}-\frac{3x}{25}=\frac{17x}{25}$

$\therefore$ Selling Price of the pendant $=\frac{17x}{25}=7208$

Solving for $x$ we get $\to$ $x=\frac{7208\times 25}{17}$

$x=10600$

$\therefore$ Marked price of the pendant was $Rs.10600$
