Solution

The correct option is D 12
Let the number of oranges received by Mr. Mehra be x.
The cost of oranges = Rs. 15x
The number of oranges bought by servant = x + 3
The market price of orange = 15x+3
The cost paid by Mr. Mehra is 25 paise i.e., 25100 more than the market price.
So, 15x+3+25100=15x
45x(x+3)=14
x(x+3)=180
x2+3x180=0
Comparing it with general form of quadratic equations ax2+bx+c=0
Roots=b±b24ac2a
3±(3)24×1×(180)2×1
3±7292
3±272
x=12 or x=15
Since x cannot be negative, x=12
Number of oranges = 12.
