Muscle cells are cylindrical or spindle-shaped to give them strength.

Solution

The muscle cell is a compact bundle of many myofibrils. Each myofibril is made of many sarcomeres bundled together and are attached end-to-end. Each sarcomere is made up of thick and thin filaments. These are cylindrical in shape hence can be easily arranged into parallel arrays which increases the strength of the muscles.
