Elongated cells called muscle fibers constitute muscle tissue. There three types of muscle fibers includes:

Striated Muscles

  1. Long, cylindrical, unbranched and multinucleated.
  2. Present in limbs, body wall, tongue, pharynx and beginning of esophagus.
  3. Voluntary muscles.

Unstriated Muscles

  1. Long, tapering ends with uninucleate.
  2. Present in alimentary canals, blood vessels and iris of the eye.
  3. Involuntary muscles.

Cardiac Muscles

  1. Cylindrical, branched with uninucleate. Have intercalated discs occur between end of the fibers.
  2. Present in heart.
  3. Involuntary muscles.

Muscular tissue is grouped into 3 types of muscles, namely, striated muscles, smooth muscles and cardiac muscles.
