Question

Myeling sheath is absent in non myelinated neuron then which structure performs the role of insulation for the axon?

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

Not all axons of neurons are myelinated or posses a electrically insulated layer. The layer imparts the speedy conduction of impulse generated at the ends of neurons. There are also some unmyelinated neurons which do not require the myelin sheath for travel of nerve impulse as there is no need of it for passage of information across short distances.
