Quantity of milk in Container-1
$= 4 \frac{2}{5} = \frac{(5 \times 4) + 2}{5} = \frac{22}{5}$ $l$

Quantity of milk in Container-2
$= 3 \frac{1}{10} = \frac{(10 \times 3) + 1}{10} = \frac{31}{10}$ $l$

Total quantity of milk
$= \frac{22}{5} + \frac{31}{10} = \frac{44 + 31}{10} = \frac{75}{10} = \frac{15}{2} = 7 \frac{1}{2} l$

Therefore, the two containers have $7 \frac{1}{2}$ $l$ of milk in total.
