Question

Sheets, tiles etc fixed on the roofs of buildings rise up when strong wind blow outside. Why does this happen?

Open in App
Solution

When strong winds blow outside, some of the sheets, tiles etc fixed on the roof-tops rise as high-speed winds create low pressure in accordance to the Bernoulli's principle. But the pressure below the roof is unchanged. The pressure below the sheets naturally becomes a high-pressure region, which ultimately pushes the sheets up towards the lower pressure region.
