Question

Why is graphite used in the lubricants?

Open in App
Solution

Graphite is used in the lubricants as it is soft and slippery in nature. This is because the forces of attraction between two layers of graphite are very weak. Enforcement of small forces can overcome this force of attraction between the layers. This causes layers of graphite to slide or slip over each other making graphite very slippery in nature.
