We follow these steps in order to solve the problem:
1) Take points A and B at a distance of 8 centimetres using a ruler.
2) Draw the perpendicular bisector of the line segment AB and label it as PQ. The points A and B are symmetric with respect to the line PQ and it acts as a line of symmetry.

The line PQ is called as the perpendicular bisector of the line AB.
