Why are catalysts used in chemical reaction?

Open in App
Solution

A catalysts is a substance that can alter the rate of reaction without itself undergoing any permanent chemical change. It provides an alternative route for the reaction with lower or higher activation energy.

It does not change the spontaneity of the reaction. Also, it does not affect the chemical equilibrium.
