Apomixis is a form of asexual reproduction that mimics sexual reproduction. There are several ways of producing apomictic seeds. In some species diploid egg cells are formed without meiosis and development of embryo takes place without fertilisation. Apomictic embryos also develop directly from sporophytic tissues (2n) like nucellus and integuments, which is called adventive embryony and it is seen in citrus and some varieties of mangoes.
