Question

Explain redox reactions using an example.

Open in App
Solution

The reaction in which one reactant gets oxidised while the other gets reduced. In other words, the reactions in which both the oxidation and reduction processes are occurring simultaneously. These oxidation-reduction reactions are called redox reactions.

For example,
In the given reaction, CuO [copper(II) oxide] is getting reduced in the Cu by losing oxygen and hydrogen (H2) is getting oxidised by gaining oxygen and the overall reaction is a redox reaction.
