Naina was given 1$\frac{1}{2}$ piece of cake and Najma was given 1$\frac{1}{3}$ piece of cake. Find the total amount of cake given to both of them.

Answer 1

Cake taken by Naina = 1$\frac{1}{2}$ piece

Cake taken by Najma = 1$\frac{1}{3}$

Total cake given = $1\frac{1}{2}+1\frac{1}{3}=\frac{3}{2}+\frac{4}{3}$

=$\frac{3\times 3+4\times 2}{6}$ [$\because$ L.C.M of 2 and 3 is 6 ]

=$\frac{9+8}{6}=\frac{17}{6}=2\frac{5}{6}$

Therefore, the total amount of cake given to both of them is 2$\frac{5}{6}$.
