1. The organisms without cell wall & can live without oxygen are called mycoplasmas.
2. Mycoplasma is simplest and the smallest of free living prokaryotes.
3. They were discovered in the pleural fluid of cattle suffering from pleuropneumonia.
4. They are often called as the PPLO (Pleuropneumonia like organisms). The size ranges from 0.1-0.15 μm.
5. Plasma membrane forms outer boundary of the cell.
6. Due to absence of cell wall, organisms can change their shape and are pleomorphic.
7. They are facultative anaerobes.
