Solution

Water pollution: The contamination of originally clean water due to the presence of toxicities in it is called water pollution.

The household detergents that cause water pollution are as follows:

  1. Phosphate: It is used to wash clothes and increases the hardness of groundwater upon seeping into the ground making it toxic for consumption.
  2. Alkylbenzene sulphonate (ABS): It is not degradable, so its concentration in water bodies increases and is harmful to aquatic life.
