After ovulation, the ruptured follicle is converted to a structure called corpus luteum, which secretes mainly progesterone. Progesterone supports the pregnancy. Progesterone also acts on the mammary glands and stimulates the formation of alveoli (sac-like structures which store milk) and milk secretion.
