  1. There are four parathyroid glands present behind the thyroid gland in humans.
  2. These glands secrete a hormone known as parathyroid hormone (PTH).
  3. Parathyroid hormone increases the calcium levels in blood by bone resorption and by increasing the absorption of calcium from digested food.
  4. So, parathyroid hormone is called as hypercalcemic hormone.
