Metals:

  1. The elements that gain a positive charge due to their ability to form positive ions by losing or donating electrons.
  2. Example: Iron(Fe), Copper(Cu), Silver(Ag), Mercury(Hg) etc.
  3. Usually metals are solid at room temperature.
  4. The metal, which is liquid at room temperature, is Mercury(Hg).

Non-metals:

  1. The elements form negative ions by gaining or accepting electrons.
  2. Example: Nitrogen(N), Oxygen(O), Fluorine(F) etc.
  3. Most of the non-metals are gases and some are solids.
  4. The only non-metal, which is liquid at room temperature, is Bromine(Br).
