Solution

  • Iron is a chemically more reactive element. When exposed to air and water it easily gets transformed into an undesirable substance.
  • The Iron gets rusted in the presence of air and water and gets converted into a brown color powdery layer, such process is called rusting of Iron.
  • The rusting will continues over a long period and hence the Iron loses its strength.
  • The chemical reaction of rusting of iron is as follows:

4Fe(s)(Iron)+3O2(g)(Oxygen)+xH2O(Water)Fe2O3.xH2O(s)(Hydratedferricoxide)(Rust)

Therefore, Iron is the metal that gets corroded when kept in a moist atmosphere.
