Solution

Elements can be classified into metals and nonmetals based on their properties.

Nonmetals:

  • Non-metals are the elements that form negative ions by accepting or gaining electrons.
  • Non-metals usually have 4, 5, 6, or 7 electrons in their outermost shell.
  • Bromine has 7 valence electrons. It is a non-metal which exists in a liquid state at room temperature.
  • Oxygen has 6 valence electrons. It is a non-metal which exists in a gaseous state at room temperature.

Hence, Bromine is a non-metal which exists in a liquid state, and Oxygen is a non-metal which exists in a gaseous state at room temperature.
