Solution

The correct option is B Insulin
The β-cells of pancreas secrete insulin. Insulin decreases the blood glucose levels. It acts mainly on hepatocytes and adipocytes and stimulates uptake and utilization of glucose by these cells. This causes rapid movement of glucose from blood to hepatocytes and adipocytes, resulting in decreased blood glucose levels.

On the other hand, glucagon increases the blood glucose levels. The α-cells of pancreas secrete glucagon. It acts mainly on the liver cells and stimulates the breakdown of glycogen to form glucose. Glucagon also reduces the cellular glucose uptake and utilization.

Thus, insulin and glucagon maintain the normal blood glucose levels in the body.

Secretin and gastrin are peptide hormones secreted by the endocrine cells of the gastrointestinal tract.

Secretin acts on the exocrine part of the pancreas and stimulates the secretion of water and bicarbonate ions.

Gastrin acts on gastric glands. It is responsible for the secretion of hydrochloric acid and pepsinogen.

The correct answer is option B.
