Cytokinin is a plant hormone that can never act alone. Cytokinins are synthesized in root apex, endosperm of seeds and young fruits. In plants, all growth processes are regulated by one or more phytohormones. In conjunction with auxins, cytokinins perform various activities. They are as follows:

1) Stimulation of cell division in non-meristematic tissue

2) Control cell differentiation

3) Cytokinins counter the apical dominance induced by auxins
