Name an element which can show the properties of metals and non-metals.

  1. Metals have a lustrous surface and show the properties of malleability and ductility and are sonorous in nature.
  2. They are good conductors of heat and electricity. Examples - zinc, and magnesium.
  3. Non-metals have a dull, brittle surface and are non-malleable, non-ductile and are non- sonorous in nature.
  4. They are poor conductors of heat and electricity. Example- nitrogen, iodine.
  5. Metalloids: The elements which show some properties of metals and some of the non-metals are referred to as metalloids.
  6. Common examples of metalloids are Boron (B), Silicon (Si), Germanium ( Ge), Arsenic (As) etc.
