  1. It is a form of asexual reproduction whereby an entirely new organism is formed from a fragment of the parent.
  2. It occurs in multicellular organisms like spirogyra, is the genus of green algae, its found in fresh water & is usually free-floating.
  3. The algae consist of thin unbranched filaments composed of cylindrical cells containing one or more beautiful spiral green chloroplast.
  4. In spirogyra, the filaments of spirogyra, upon maturation, break into small pieces or fragments, which also grow into new individuals.
